To get started, walk the way from your room toward the diving center, there, you may tailor your holidays.
General guidelines:
To join a dive, you need to present us your certification. This certification, with your agreement, will be kept at the diving center as justification in the occurring event of official’s security check.
A responsibility release and a check-in form are signed to contract any desired services.
At holiday’s end, you will check-out and draw back your certification.
Environment: All of Dahab’s reefs are part of the protectorate. Rules for the protectorate are strict, do not damage, or remove anything, and leave nothing but bubbles. Anything that belongs to water stays there untouched. Only eye contact is allowed. Dive like your shadow and you will be rewarded ever and ever by authentic fauna and flora along Dahab’s reefs.
Depth: The Egyptian Underwater Federation rules out recreational diving’s depth limit is 30 meters.
Flying: According to latest IATA (International air travel association) standards made in accordance with hyperbaric medical studies and dive organizations, the surface interval before boarding a plane will be 24 hours.
St Catherine’s monastery: St Catherine’s monastery is situated at +/- 1600 meters, the pilgrims usually trek the mountain to 2600m. This activity requires muscular activity and is performed below hot sun. Required surface interval: 24 hours. (Be aware that the monastery is not opened on (Fridays) and Sundays.
1-Diving equipment:
1.1 Renting:The diving center possesses the full range of equipment for recreational diving available for rent. From snorkeling to Nitrox diving. This equipment will be released to you upon signature of the check-in form. You will store it in a provided box in the equipment room.
1.2 Own material:
You possess your own equipment? Congratulation! This material will be stored in the equipment room, a box will be provided to you for easy storing and transportation.
All equipments spend the night inside the equipment room, whether dry (in boxes) or wet (on hooks). As you are responsible for your material (own or rented), remember to make the transfer from the outdoor drying space toward the equipment room.
2. Diving and dive sites:
There are more than 25 dive sites (standard entry points) along Dahab’s reef; some of which are internationally well known and some of which are more modest on the international stage but may offer -due to their discretion- very authentic and rewarding dive. The choice of site is made in accordance with your expectation, other guests’ expectations and weather conditions.
According to the Egyptian underwater federation in accordance with Sinai protectorate, all divers must be accompanied underwater by a local dive-guide. In consideration to the environment, this rule enforce respect of specific entry and exit point that generally do not damage the coral as well as prevent situations in which divers would run the risk of damaging the underwater environment because of a lack of local conditions’ knowledge.
2.1 Day dive:
Generally you meet the dive guide around 8 o’clock to 9 o’clock for the morning dive, depending on the season; and after midday for the afternoon dive. For some dive-sites however, we try to meet earlier to benefit of special conditions. For instance, when we want you to be the first to dive a specific location for the day, when we would like special light setting underwater or when we have to walk with suit and tank on and prefer morning temperature.
Day dives are limited to 6 divers per group, Max depth (when applicable is 30 meters) on the first dive/ less on the second dive, 40 to 60 minutes duration depending on profile, air consumption, season and time of the day.
2.2. Night diving:
Night diving is a fascinating discovery of the red sea. This dive presents to you very different aspect of normal diving. For instance: dark water’s buoyancy and restricted sight’s scope. Further you will meet night’s specific fauna and flora! Night hunters, crabs, shells, feather stars. If you are lucky your dive is rewarded by beautiful Spanish dancer!
There are fewer available sites for night diving. Due to our location we have the opportunity to present to you the canyon and the house reef among other sites (Shoestep, Bahaha…) where we can be alone most of the time; this contrast to more frequented sites like the lighthouse.
Generally, the departure from the hotel is around 7 to 8 o’clock pm according to sunset. Kitchen’s staff is aware of your diving and dinner will be served for you as you come back from the dive.
Night dives are limited to 15 meters depth and 40 minutes duration.
2.3 Nitrox-Diving:
Is Nitrox-diving the future of recreational diving? No answer to this question; Diving has evolved so fast it is no-one’s duty to predict what the future will be made of. As of today however Enriched Air Nitrox is seen as a considerable benefit for diver’s safety and comfort. Nitrox for those of us that still wonder, has a reduced proportion of nitrogen gas as component. Basically it means that less nitrogen is dissolved in your tissues and less nitrogen has to make its way out. Benefits include longer bottom time before decompression would be required, shorter surface interval, shorter desaturation time. Comfort for the diver is enhanced for there is less psychological anxiety for decompression sickness; more factual is that divers report less fatigue.
Request your Nitrox tank if you both desire and are properly certified. The small extra cost is 4 euros. Nitrox is offered free of charges to you after a Nitrox certification with Daniela.
3. General Dive Training:
A broad range of trainings are regularly performed at the Diving Center. The most up to date rate information is to be found at the diving center; sometimes, packages or special offers are released. Choose your certifying organism; announce your preferred language of training; and our staff shall organize your training.
3.1 Nitrox-diving training:
A Nitrox training level-1 take place in one day. Choose your certifying organism and your date of training, read a bit of theory, be ready for a few calculations, perform two Nitrox dives under guidance…off you go!
4. Dive Safaris:
Only a certain amount of dive sites are accessible by car. If you desire, you may decide to explore more remote sites and arrange your day as a diving safari! Generally speaking, the extra motivation it will take you to make this step of going for remote dive site is fast rewarded; less divers explore remote safaris sites on a daily basis, aquatic life is less disturbed and so richer; sites are more peaceful and naturally charming. It’s an event forever reminded (Alzheimer taken apart).
